Johan De Bock (translated by us): 'This hill (along with Hill 60, Mesen hill, ...) is part of the Height of Wijtschate.

This is part of the 'Drieblotenbos', which often is referred to with it's Canadian name 'Sanctuary Wood'.

At the beginning of WO1, the Canadian soldiers were able to occupy this hill, giving them a clear view on the German positions. In June 1916, some heavy battles took place trying to master this hill, along with 'Mount Sorrel' more to the south. This hill chages few times from occupier, but in the end, the Canadians win.

On Hill 62, you find a monument for the Canadian victims. On the orientation platform, the most important directions are indicated (Ypres, Mesen,...).
Small anecdote: On the Canadian you read 'Here at Mount Sorrell...' - which is a mistake: the real 'mount Sorell' if few kilometers more to the south.
