Johan De Bock (tanslated by us): 'Those towers were built by the shipping companies. The idea was that from within the tower, one could see whether their ships were arriving on the river Scheldt. Because - also in those periods - was costy, the stairs were built on children size - and children were sent up in the tower to watch... This orginated the name 'Pagaddertower' ('Pagadder' means 'child' in Antwerp dialect).'
