This 'Tower of Books' was built between 1932 and 1935 according to H. Van de Velde's plans for the university of Ghent.
The modernist tower shell has no decoration. It is 64 metres high, and counts 21 floors. The belvédère crowning the tower shows some art deco elements: the contrasts between horizontal and vertical lines, jumping surfaces and a ribbed roof.
At the bottom, the tower was dressed with Belgian Limestone, in the hight you can see concrete.
