On September 12th 1944, Neupre was freed by the werd Neupre bevrijd door troepen van de th Infantry Troups of the U.S. Army. On 28 September 28th 1944, a temporary graveyard was started. On this Military graveyard now 7989 soldiers rest. Most of them died during the German Von Rundstedt counterattack.

But there are other American casualties from the end of 1944 and 1945, as the crew of several aeroplanes that were shot down in the area.
